I am a Professor in the Department of Political Science, University of North Bengal, West Bengal, India. Established in 1962 the University of North Bengal is a University Grants Commission (UGC) recognised state aided University and is the second oldest in the state. It is located in the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas known as the Terrai region close to the commercial town of Siliguri in Darjeeling district. The NAAC has accredited the University with A Grade in 2016. I joined the University as a young Lecturer on 2nd of March 1992 after completing my Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and while working for my PhD thesis in Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi under Prof. (Mrs.) Kiran Saxena. I served the University as a young Lecturer then as a Reader from 2nd March, 2001 (re-designated as Associate Professor as per University Grants Commission [UGC] norms and finally was appointed as a Professor on May 1, 2009 at the age of 43 years and 10 months.
The Department in which I teach is one of the oldest in the University established in 1962. It is a 13 member faculty department. The activities of the Department revolve around the triad of teaching at the MA, MPhil and PhD levels, Promotion and Supervision of research activities leading to M. Phil and PhD and training of teachers at the college level through workshops, refresher courses etc. at regular intervals. My teaching activities at the Post Graduate level include a course in Western Political Thought, Political Economy of Development, Issues and Movements in Indian Politics, Electoral Politics. At the MPhil and PhD level my teaching activities include courses on Research Methodology/Research Designs and Methods, Social Movements and Political Process in India. Apart from taking classes at the MA, MPhil and PhD level I have been able to produce a few MPhil and PhD scholars who are well placed teaching in Universities and Colleges. I am also engaged in personal or sponsored research in the areas of my interest. It is my research activities that had helped me in travelling to different parts of the country for collecting data. It is mainly due to my research activities I have travelled to several countries abroad for participating in seminars and conferences.
My areas of interest include; Political Economy of Development, Indian Political Economy, Identity Politics, Social Movements, State Politics and Political Parties. Apart from my subject I take interest in Philosophy, History and Literature (only classics). Teaching, reflecting and researching in this University till now had been a wonderful experience for me.
